Shape: The thickness at the base is 1.06 cm (0.42 inches), making it a sturdy and substantial piece. It looks like Yoroi Doshi.
Jigane: The fine itame hada (wood grain pattern) is exceptionally well-crafted, with intricate and refined jihada, featuring beautiful textures when examined closely.
Temper Pattern (Hamon): The hamon appears as a straight temper with a slightly aged feel upon initial inspection.
Features: Sadayoshi, also known as Gassan Sadayoshi was a swordsmith born in Sasagawa Village, Murayama County, Dewa Province. He was a disciple of Suishinshi Masahide and used the alias “Yahachiro” during his apprenticeship. He resided in Osaka and produced swords characterized by fine ko-mokume hada (small burl grain pattern) with a robust and elegant appearance. A word from Aoi-Art: This is a powerful and remarkable piece with intricate textures in the jihada. Seikichi passed away at the age of 70 in the second year of Meiji. Afterward, he moved to Osaka in the fourth year of Tenpo, honed his skills, and adopted a child from the Gassan family, taking the name Gassan Seizaburo. Both master and disciple conducted research on Gassan Hada and eventually succeeded in creating aya-sugi hada. This technique has been kept a closely guarded secret to this day. Seikichi passed away on February 1st, 1870, at the age of 71. The second generation, Tsukiyama Seizaburo, went on to achieve significant success. This work features a magnificent blade with a finely textured jihada and a substantial short sword that evokes the image of being worn with armor.
