At our establishment, we classify swords as Supreme (Saijyo Saku), Excellent (Jojo Saku), Upper (Jo Saku), or Regular (Futsu Saku) based on the quality of the craftsmanship. The workmanship of this piece ranks as Upper (Jo Saku).

Habaki: Silver foiled single Habaki.

Period: Late Muromachi period, August 1576
Shape: The sword exhibits a broad and well-proportioned shape with a prominent and a deep torii-sori (curve).
Jigane: It has a rich ko-itame hada (small-grained wood grain pattern).
Hamon: displays an attractive midareba hamon with ashi and yo, and sunagashi. The boshi (temper pattern at the tip) has a small roundshape.

Koshirae:
fittings: copper
Kozuka: copper plate with carving of characters.
Menuki: Copper carving of a horse.

Features: This is a late Muromachi period work, a time when a considerable number of tanto were created. However, during the Edo period, the production of tantos declined
significantly, and they became relatively rare.

From Aoi Art: This tanto was created by Bizen no Kuni Osafune Kiyomitsu in
August 1576, and it’s considered a healthy work. It has a thick kasane (body), and I
highly recommend it.
