Shape: Wide body with firm kasane, deep curvature, elongated kissaki showing a well-formed shape.
Jigane: Well-forged Itame hada with fine grain patterns clearly visible.
Hamon: Nie-deki gunome midare with active ashi, featuring sand flows and kinsuji, the boshi returns roundly.

Features: Kunitsugu, a swordsmith, was born in 1954 in Tokushima Prefecture and learned forging skills from his father, Tanaka Shunji. Kunitsugu’s works are bold and excellent in length, curvature, and kissaki shape, characterized by gunome midare with active sand flows and kinsuji, making him a highly skilled modern swordsmith. He is expected to develop further and become an even more excellent swordsmith. The exceptional jigane is believed to be due to the use of homemade steel and water from the Yoshino River in Tokushima. Known for its cutting ability, the dynamic activity in the hamon and the presence of sand flow and kinsuji in the blade make this a splendid piece.

Tsuba: Iron, circular with peony and lion motifs carved, with the rim covered in silver.
Fuchikashira: Silver
Saya: Red lacquered scabbard
Menuki: Shakudo with high relief of Buddha figures colored with gold.

This piece by Minamoto Kunitsugu is wonderfully made with no flaws or defects; healthy and highly recommended. The tsuka is well-made with leather which complements the overall quality koshirae.
