He passed away at the age of eighty in March of Meiji 24th year.Iwadai is in present-day Fukushima Prefecture. During the Boshin War, the former shogunate forces and the new government forces fought, leading to the Aizu War in Fukushima Prefecture. The battlefield extended to Aizu-Wakamatsu (Tsuruga Castle), and the Aizu clan barricaded themselves in the castle. The young samurai fought bravely as the Byakkotai, but after a month-long siege, they resorted to ritual suicide. Eventually, Matsudaira Yorinori surrendered, and a senior retainer committed seppuku, bringing an end to the conflict. Samurai from Fukushima had strong affection for their hometown and tended to cherish local swords, passing them down through generations. This sword, Yamato no Kami Hidekuni(formerly Motooki Nyudo Shoken), is one such work, and it has been registered in Fukushima for some time.

From Aoi Art: Not only Yamato no Kami Hidemune (formerly Motooki Nyudo Shoken) but also Izumi no Kami Kanenari, Sanzen Nagamichi, and others are owned by collectors. At first glance, this sword may seem plain, but it is a serious work with a straight temper, a bright appearance, and excellent construction quality. It is a highly recommended sword.
