Bizen Suke Fujiwara Munetsugu was born in Mutsu Shirakawa as the brother of Koyama Munehira, and worked as a swordsmith for the Shirakawa Matsudaira family, later moving to Kuwana by feudal order. In Tenpo Ni (2nd year of Tenpo), he went to Edo to forge swords. Many of his works bear cutting test and owner’s signatures, indicating he was famous and received many orders from samurai at the time. Munetsugu’s works are of high quality, showing his high skill level. This piece is a healthy work with remaining life blade, well-polished, and the activity in the blade is well brought out. Highly recommended.
