Shape: The blade is slightly wide, with standard thickness, a deep curvature, and a noticeable difference between the width at the base and the tip.
Jigane: fine and packed Ko-itame looking plain surface.
Hamon: Nioi-based, with gunome-chōji in which ashi are active, and in the upper section frequent sunagashi appears. Hamon is clear and bright.

Chō'unsai Tsunatoshi was a swordsmith of the late Edo period and a disciple of Suishinshi Masahide. He worked as a domain smith for the Uesugi clan, lords of the Yamagata domain, and forged swords at the Uesugi residence in Edo.Working mainly in the Bizen tradition, he established a major school and notable swordsmiths such as Ishidō Korekazu and Koyama Munetsugu were among his disciples. In 1856, he passed the name Cho'unsai Tsunatoshi to his son, and changed his own name to Chōjusai(長寿斉,"長寿 "means longevity).
