Special feature: This work was made by Takamitsu, a swordsmith who flourished between the mid Muromachi period and the late Muromachi period. It is so-called Katateuchi sword. In the Nambokucho period, it was mainstream to use Tachi on a horse. From the early Muromachi period, many warriors started to use Uchigatana, that is used on the ground. We call Uchigatana with this length “Katateuchi” because it is very easy to use by one hand(Katate=one hand). Those days, Jigane was good and there were many nicely-made works, but as the war went extreme and the demand for the swords increased drastically, mass production started and they started to make swords with thin Kawagane and thick Shingane.
