Features: Sumi Hidekuni was a swordsmith from Mutsu Province. He first studied under Suishinshi Masahide and later trained with Motohira, at which time he changed his signature to Motooki. It is said that he died young in 1824 (Bunsei 7).
This work is a splendid piece, brightly and clearly tempered with a vivid Gunome-midare hamon featuring a thick nioikuchi.
