Kobayashi Ise no Kami Kuniteru is said to have been the fourth son of the first-generation Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke and the younger brother of the second-generation Kunisuke. He received the title of Ise Daijo in 1671, and in the following year was promoted to Ise no Kami.
Around 1690, he began producing his distinctive tang called as “Gohei-gata.” From around Genroku 10 to Genroku 12 (1697–1699), he produced swords in Awa Province. Gohei 御幣 is a decoration used in Shinto rituals.
