Sayagaki:
*Bizen no Kuni Chikakage. Suriage Mumei. Dating from around the Kenmu era (1334–1338). Blade length: 1 shaku 6 sun 8 bu. Written in the fifth month of Showa 49 (1974) by Hon'ami Nisshū (Living National Treasure). (Kaō).
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku and Regular Saku).
This blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among works attributed to Chikakage.
Habaki: Double silver base habaki . GOld foiled.
Blade Length: 50.4 cm (19.84 in).
Curvature: 0.3 cm (0.12 in).
Mekugi Hole: 3.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.89 cm (1.14 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.50 cm (0.20 in).
Sword Weight: 410 g.
Era: Kamakura period.
Shape: A very rare example of a blade known as Satsuma-age.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada and Mokume hada with distinct utsuri.
Hamon: Nioi-deki suguha.
Features: This blade originally suffered damage to its upper portion. Rather than being discarded, the damaged section was reshaped so that the blade could continue to be used, resulting in the distinctive form known as Satsuma-age. It was polished by a Living National Treasure sword polisher and has received a superb finish. This is a rare and highly unusual wakizashi-sized example.
