He excelled in forging highly artistic hamon, including kobushi-gata choji, kikka choji, sudare-ba, and kikusui-ba. He passed away on December 15, 1846.
Historical Background: The second month of Bunka 8 (March–April 1811) is noted for the Confucian scholar and Chinese poet Hōjō Katei leaving Hayashizaki and relocating to Saga, Kyoto, where he began the reclusive life later recorded in Saga Shōka. Historical records from this period also include biographical materials relating to the Kokugaku scholar Motoori Norinaga, as well as literary and artistic developments.
