This work is ranked as Jyojyo Saku for Mumei(Unsigned) (Rai Kunizane).
Habaki: Single-layer gold-covered habaki.
Blade Length: 52.0 cm (20.47 in).
Curvature: 1.0 cm (0.39 in).
Mekugi Hole: 2.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.57 cm (1.01 in).
Width at Yokote: 1.72 cm (0.68 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.64 cm (0.25 in).
Sword Weight: 460 grams.
Era: Nanbokucho period, around Bunna era, 1352.
Shape: A slightly elongated wakizashi with bohi on both sides and an extended kissaki.
Jigane: Utsuri appears clearly on the ji.
Hamon: Nioi-deki with active ko-ashi, and the boshi turns back in a rounded form.

Features: Rai Kunizane was called Togoro and is said to have been the son of Rai Kunitoshi and the younger brother of Rai Kunimitsu.
His workmanship closely resembles that of Rai Kunimitsu and is of high quality.
This work is particularly notable for its excellent jigane, clearly visible utsuri, and healthy boshi.

Historical Background: In 1337 (Engen 2 / Kenmu 4), Kitabatake Akiie, the Chinju-fu Daishogun (Commander-in-Chief of the military organization established by the Imperial Court of the Southern Court), was killed in battle by Ko no Moronao, a chief retainer of the Ashikaga clan.
