The workmanship of this piece is ranked as Jyojo Saku for Mumei (Ujisada).
Habaki: Gold-covered and silver-covered Habaki with engraved “Maru” and “E” characters.
Blade Length: 44.50 cm (17.52 in).
Curvature: 1.2 cm (0.47 in).
Mekugi Hole: 1.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.20 cm (1.26 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.66 cm (0.26 in).
Sword Weight: 340 g.
Era: Late Muromachi period to early Edo period.
Shape: Wide mihaba with solid kasane wakizashi.
On the omote, a kenmaki-ryu (coiled dragon around a sword) and dokko are engraved.
On the ura, Hachiman Daibosatsu, bo-hi and soe-bi are carved.
The sugata resembles the long Keicho Shinto style.
Jigane: The nakago shows file marks of Seki style.
Hamon: Itame mixed with mokume hada standing out, with ashi, slightly deep nioiguchi, and a thick rounded boshi.
Features: Izumo no Kami Fujiwara Ujisada is regarded as having one of the highest official court titles.
He is said to have been a disciple of the first generation Ujifusa and the elder brother of Wakasa no Kami Ujifusa, later moving from Mino to Owari.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round iron tsuba with visible tekkotsu and engraved landscape design.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with carved figures and gold inlay.
Saya (Scabbard):
Menuki: Millet motif (solid gold??).
Kozuka: Iron ground engraved with the inscription “Marishiten / Buun Chokyu (prayers for lasting military fortune)”.
Kogatana included: Signed.
Umabari: Engraved with a flower design.
Historical Background: Keicho (1596–1615) is a Japanese era name between Bunroku and Genna, spanning the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods.
In 1600, at the Battle of Sekigahara, the forces of Ishida Mitsunari were defeated.
Due to his achievements at Sekigahara, Kato Yoshiaki was granted an increase to 200,000 koku.
