Aoi Art’s Comment: This is a superior work by Hihan Tōji Enju Kunihide, featuring suguha with well-formed small ashi.
The polishing has been carefully executed, allowing the fine quality of the jigane to be clearly appreciated.
“Hihan Tōji” refers to the domain that governed Miyazaki District and Naka District of Hyuga Province (present-day the central southern part of Miyazaki City and the entirety of Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture).
The domain office was at Obi Castle, and the ruling family was the Ito clan, a Tozama daimyo.
It gives the impression that he proudly identified himself as a swordsmith of Hizen.
