This work is ranked as Jyojyo Saku for a Mumei (Sue-Sa / O-Sa school) piece.
Habaki: Solid copper, single piece.
Blade Length: 48.6 cm (19.13 in).
Curvature: 1.0 cm (0.39 in).
Mekugi Hole: 2.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.78 cm (1.09 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.73 cm (0.29 in).

Shape: A Naginata-naoshi piece that was originally longer.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada, forming a refined and excellent steel surface.
Hamon: Nie-deki, a notare hamon mixed with suguha, with sunagashi and kinsuji working within the temper line, and tobiyaki appearing on the shinogi-ji.

Features: Sue-Sa refers to the Samonji school and indicates swordsmiths active in the Nanbokucho period (1336–1392).
They were disciples and members of the O-Sa lineage, and many smiths of this group were active during the Nanbokucho period.
Among them, signed works exist by smiths such as Yasuyoshi, Yukihiro, and Kunihiro.
However, these works are generally limited to tanto and wakizashi.
This piece is a Naginata-naoshi work with an enduring and appealing character.
The jigane is excellent and healthy, with tobiyaki appearing on the shinogi-ji, and the hamon is a notare mixed with suguha.

Tsuba: Shakudo polished ground tsuba.
Saya (Scabbard): Black roiro lacquered saya.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with paulownia crests in gold.
Menuki: Shakudo ground with a high-relief design of Hotei, partially finished with gold coloring.
Kozuka: Solid copper nanako ground with a high-relief design of figures and animals with gold coloring.
Kogatana included.

Aoi Art’s Comment: The O-Sa school often shows well-forged jigane resembling the Soshu tradition, similar to works of Samonji.
This piece was originally made in the style of a naginata and later shortened and reshaped into a wakizashi, giving a strong sense of its old period.
