Historical Background: During the Kanbun era of the Edo period, restrictions made the sale of swords increasingly difficult, leading smiths to devise various innovations and produce more refined works.
Techniques such as cutting inscriptions, dynamic wave-like hamon, and carved blade designs became more common.
As peace prevailed in the Edo period, the practical need for swords declined, and they came to be appreciated more as art objects, leading to a preference for increasingly beautiful works.
