Additional Information:
Goto Tokujo, the fifth-generation head of the Goto mainline descended from Goto Yujo, was born in Kyoto as the heir of his father, Mitsunori. The Goto family traditionally specialized in crafting sword fittings and served the Ashikaga shogunate during the Muromachi period. After the fall of the Ashikaga clan, Tokujo went on to serve Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Notably, beyond sword fittings, he was also involved in producing oban gold coins and weight measures used for weighing gold and silver. According to family records, in 1581 (Tensho 9), Tokujo and his father were appointed by Nobunaga as officials in charge of oban coinage and weight standards ("bundō ōban-yaku").
