Features: Sumitani Masamine (1921–1998), born in Ishikawa Prefecture, was a distinguished Japanese swordsmith and was designated a Living National Treasure in 1981.
After training under Sakurai Masayuki, he established his own forge, Sanryutei, in Matsuto, Ishikawa, and produced many notable works.
This work features the flamboyant midare Hamon for which Masamine pecialized in. The blade is richly covered in nie overall, with a bright and deep nioiguchi forming a lively gunome-midare, further enhanced by sunagashi, resulting in a splendid and vibrant piece.
