Izumi no Kami Fujiwara Kunisada
It bears a seven-character signature and is attributed to the Keian era(1648-1652), the very late period of Kunisada’s career. It is regarded as a dai-mei (substitute signature) of Shinkai. It is likely that not only the signature but also the actual forging was carried out by Shinkai.
The workmanship is excellent, representing a superior example typical of this period.
Blade length: 2 shaku 8 sun.
Appraised and inscribed by Tanzan in the spring of the year of Tsuchinoto-i(2019).
We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku and Regular Saku.
This sword is ranked as Jyojo Saku among the works by Izumi no Kami Fujiwara Kunisada (Inoue Shinkai).

Izumi no Kami Fujiwara Kunisada was a representative swordstmith in Osaka in the early Edo period. He was a student of Horikawa Kunihiro and also studied under Echigo no Kami Kunitomo. Around 1620, he moved to Osaka, and in 1623, he received the title of Izumi no Kami. In his later years, his health declined, and many works were made on his behalf by his son, Shinkai, who is also renowned swordsmith.
