Sword Weight: 580 g
Shape: A well-proportioned blade in width and thickness, with deep curvature.
Bo-hi (grooves) are carved on both sides.
The kissaki is slightly extended.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada, resulting in a fine and clean steel surface.
Hamon: Straight temper line (suguha), approaching nioi-deki style, with ko-ashi well distributed.
A reproduction of an old sword (koto utsushi).
The boshi is round with a double line temper.
Features: Ishido Unju Korekazu’s nephew, commonly known as Masataro, succeeded as the 7th generation Korekazu.
No swords by him are seen after the sword prohibition decree.
He passed away on November 24, 1891, at the age of 75.
Korezane is classified as Jyojyo Saku and produced many excellent swords in the Bizen-den and Soshu-den traditions, especially in the Soden-Bizen style.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Mokko-gata iron tsuba, with animals and plum tree in high relief, decorated with gold inlay.
Fuchikashira: Iron base.
Saya (Scabbard): Black lacquered saya with family crest.
Menuki: Shakudo base, with engraved tools motif, decorated with gold inlay.
Aoi Art’s Comment: This piece is likely a reproduction of works by Kagemitsu from the Kamakura period.
At a glance, the length, curvature, and bo-hi resemble works from that time.
However, it has little utsuri and the hamon has a slightly rigid impression.
It is an excellent work by the master swordsmith Ishido Fujiwara Korekazu.
