大隅俊平作
Heisei 7Nen 12 Gatsu 23 Hi
平成7年12月23日

Special feature: Osumi Toshihira was born in Otashi, Gunma prefecture, in Showa 17[1932],
trained sword making skills at Miyairi Yukihira, who is famous for Living National Treasure.
He was obsessed with Suguhadeki works and traced and specialized Rai school, Aoe school,
and other old swords, so he was making quite different works from his master. But he won
Masamune prize 3 times, and other prizes like Excellence prize for a lot of times. Then,
he was designated as Living National Treasure swordsmith in 1997, he literally reached the top level
of swordsmiths. Functionings in Ha is outstanding and they are quite similar to the ones in Rai school works.
He was given Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1999, and The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays
with Neck Ribbon in 2005. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 77. Most surprisingly,
he was obsessed with Suguha, not Soshuden, which was his master’s expertise. Generally,
he must make Soshuden swords, but he was doing only Suguha, so his master is supposed
to have been very tolerant and taken special care of him.
