Special feature: Sumitani Seiho was born Ishikawa prefecture at Taisho
10th year. For the first stage he must maintain his father’s old
well established company but he was very interested in making Japanese
traditional sword. So he entered the Universuty of Ritsumeikan and
studied about machine engineering and during his study the
university established sword making Tanrenjyo (laboratory of making
swords) and learned from Sakurai Masayuki.
After graduated the university, he moved Hiroshima Onomichi district
and worked at Nihonto Tanrenjyo (making sword factory)
After the wold war, he made his own factory(Tanrenjyo)
at Showa 28th (1953) and made many swords especially old
Kamakura or Nanbokucho style swords. He finally made Sumitani
Choji midare sword by his own Tatara. At Showa 56(1981),
he finally got the title of National treasure (human national treasure)
Also he got the title of Masamune soy prize (the top ranking sword maker)
and after that he became a member of NBTHK administration officer.
He was ordered to make a sword for Ise shrine treasure
which is the most prestigious assignment. His sword will be in good
condition until permanently stored in the Ise shrine as shrine’s treasure.
This Tanto is wonderful Jigane like Norishige and also active gunome
and choji midare mixed with sunagashi and Kinsuji work.
The blade will be good investment wonderful masterpiece.
We strongly recommend this Tanto.

Sori : 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.
Mekugi :  1
Width at the hamachi : 3.0 cm or 1.18 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.1 cm or 0.82 inches.
Kasane : 0.69 cm or 0.27 inches.
Shape : Wide and thick Katana. The Kissaki is rather long.
The nice shape Katana.
Jigane : Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach. It is clear Jigane.
Hamon : Nie Deki, Gunome Midare and Choji Midare,
In Ha, there are Sunagashi and Kinsuji. The Nioikuchi is soft.
Boshi is round and constriction shape. It reminds of Kotetsu.
