Oite Toto Kato Tsunatoshi/Tempo 2 Nen 8 Gatsu Hi

Special feature : Born Kato Hachiro in Dewa province, present Yamagata pref.
As the Third son of Izumi (No) Kami Kunihide in 1798, learned under Suishinshi Masahide.
Kato Tsunahide, known as its excellent Toran-ba hamon was Tsunatoshi’s elder brother.
Tsunehide moved to Osaka from Edo and learned under Suzuki Harukuni.
After that Tsunahide went to Kyushu Island and forged sword at Kumamoto.
Around 1823, he lived a house of the Uesugi family at Azabu in Edo.
He passed away in 1863, aged 66.
He educated many sword makers like 7th generation Korekazu, Takahashi Naaganobu, Seiryuken Moritoshi and so on.
This blade looks typical Yokoyama Sukenaga or Sukekane.
Probably he was senior craft man so Sukenaga studied from Tsunatoshi and succeeded the Hamon from his master.
But Tsunatoshi made different strong feeling Bizen Cyoji midare and continued his style. By the way, This sword is nice cyoji midare hamon and also wide and thick ookossaki style gorgeous blade.
The sword was made Tenpo uchii sword which means most shinshinto sword makers made top quality blades at that period Tenpo era.
Koshirae :
Tsuba :On the round shape iron Tsuba, man who is on the cow’s back and mountaine in the distace peaceful scenary.
Fuchikashira :On the iron plate, shishi dogs are engraving.
Saya : black roiro saya.
Menuki : phoenix are engraved by syakudo plate with gold color.
Tsukaito was made by the mustache of a whale.

Blade length : 72.57cm or 28.57 inches.
Sori : 1.2cm or 0.47inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.15cm or 1.24inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.05cm or 0.81inches.
Kasane : 0.71cm or 0.28inches.
Shape : It is wide and thick blade with some sori.
The kissaki is long ended. It is nice shape katana.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attahced. It is typical Hizen Konukaw hada steel.
Hamon : Nie structure funome midare with ups and downs in the ha.
The deep nioiguchi hamon reminds of the dense summer cloud.
Ashi is well attached. Sunagashi and kinsuji activities could be observed as well. Boushi is large and round ended.
