This blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works of Ushu Shonai Ju Naokazu.
Habaki: Single silver-foiled habaki.
Blade Length: 36.5 cm (14.37 in).
Curvature: 0.8 cm (0.31 in).

Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.33 cm (1.31 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.77 cm (0.30 in).
Sword Weight: 415 g.
Era: Edo period, dated to an auspicious day in October, 1866.
Shape: A wakizashi with a wide mihaba, thick kasane, and a slight sakizori.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with a fine-quality jigane. The grain is clearly visible.
Hamon: Nie-deki with an attractive rounded pattern. The boshi turns back in a rounded form.
Features: Ushu Shonai Ju Naokazu, whose personal name was Sato Hyoshiro, worked in the Shonai domain. His workmanship closely resembles that of Suishinshi Masahide, reflecting the influence of the Shinshinto revival movement.
Aoi Art’s Comment: The inscription "An Auspicious Day in October, Keiō 2, Hinoe-Tora" corresponds to November 1866 in the Gregorian calendar. This was a turbulent period at the end of the Edo era. During the Second Choshu Campaign, large numbers of shogunate troops were stationed in Osaka, causing rice prices to soar. The resulting hardship led to the large-scale Osaka Uchikowashi (urban riots), reflecting the widespread social unrest of the time.
