Gassan Sadakatsu was the son of Gassan Sadakazu and initially produced works on his father's behalf.
After his father’s passing, he began making many swords for military personnel.
He was also skilled in carving horimono (blade engravings) and left behind many excellent works.
In 1916 (Taisho 5), Sadakatsu was already acting as a substitute maker and doing blade carvings.
He established a forge in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, where he and his apprentices produced many swords for soldiers heading to the battlefield.
