Features: Mukansa swordsmith Ono Yoshimitsu is one of the leading masters of modern times, based in Niigata and Okayama. He is especially known for his flamboyant “juka choji-midare” (commonly called Ono-choji), exemplified by works modeled after the National Treasure “Yamatorige.” This piece, however, is in suguha style, showing a calm and उत्कृष्ट workmanship. It was created as an utsushi of the Kamakura-period masterpiece O-Denta Mitsuyo (Miike Norimune Mitsuyo). The wide bo-hi grooves are a distinctive feature. Although Ono Yoshimitsu is famous for reproductions of Yamatorige, his suguha works are also highly regarded.
