The workmanship of this piece is ranked as Jyo Saku for a Mumei work attributed to Kashu Ietsugu (around the Oei era).
Habaki: Gold-plated single habaki.
Blade Length: 79.1 cm (31.14 in).
Curvature: 3.3 cm (1.30 in).
Mekugi Hole: 1.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.13 cm (1.23 in).
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 1.87 cm (0.74 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.77 cm (0.30 in).
Sword Weight: 835 g.
Era: Muromachi period, around Oei era (1394), about 635 years have passed.
Shape: The blade is wide with thick kasane, deep curvature, and a slightly extended kissaki, forming a well-proportioned and impressive shape.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with a faint utsuri appearing.
Hamon: Ko-gunome midare mixed with ko-choji midare.
The boshi becomes midare-komi with a somewhat stained appearance.

Features: This is a powerful work with a long blade and deep curvature.
It has been authenticated as Kashu Ietsugu from around the Oei era by the NBTHK Hozon Token appraisal.
Several generations of Kashu Ietsugu existed from around the Eisho era of the Muromachi period until the late Muromachi period.
This school, whose founder was Sanekage, belonged to the Hashizume school and is referred to as Kaga Aoe.

Tsuba: Iron tsuba in a rounded-square shape with peony design in brass inlay.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo base.
Kashira: Horn.
Saya (Scabbard): Black lacquer saya with kawari-nuri finish.
Menuki: Shakudo base with carved flower design.

Aoi Art’s Comment: About 635 years have passed since this sword was made.
It maintains a dignified shape and still retains an almost ubu-nakago style appearance.
At that time many battles were fought on horseback, and with a blade length of 79.1 cm (31.14 in), it suggests that intense battles were taking place.
