Echizen-jū Harima Daijō Fujiwara Shigetaka was active over several generations from the late Muromachi period onward, though relatively few of his works are known today.
The first generation is characterized by the distinctive style of his signature, while from the second generation onward the mei is carved in a longer, vertically elongated manner.
This piece is a rare naginata by the first generation, preserved in ubu (unshortened original tang) condition.
