Japan Post has issued the following statement:
"Japan Post Co., Ltd. will temporarily suspend acceptance of postal items addressed to the United States starting Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Under the recent U.S. Presidential Executive Order, postal items containing goods imported for consumer purposes (taxable postal items) will no longer be eligible for duty-free treatment after August 29, 2025, and customs duties will be imposed.
On August 15, 2025, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced new guidelines regarding the abolition of the de minimis exemption, which require carriers and postal operators to pay customs bonds to CBP and prepare customs declarations.
However, the specific procedures to be undertaken by carriers and foreign postal operators remain unclear, making implementation extremely difficult.
Therefore, from Wednesday, August 27, Japan Post will, in line with other postal operators worldwide, temporarily suspend acceptance of all postal items to the U.S. that contain goods, including small packets, parcels, and EMS (merchandise)."
As a result, EMS shipments to the United States will be unavailable for the time being.
Although additional charges will apply, parcels destined for the U.S. can still be shipped via UPS, or via FedEx for items other than Japanese swords.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your kind understanding.
