Shape: long and wide tanto with Mitsumune carved with two lines of hi.
Jigane: Koitame mixed with Komoku covered with fine chikei and jinie.
Hamon: Rounded gunomemidare with fine nie making sunagashi. Nioikuchi is thick and bright.
Features:
Sumitani Masamine was a swordsmith from Ishikawa Prefecture, born in 1921. After graduating from Ritsumeikan University in 1941, he entered the Ritsumeikan Japanese Sword Forging Research Institute, where he studied under Sakurai Masayuki. He later became independent and established his own Japanese sword forging workshop, Sanryutei, in his hometown of Matto City, Ishikawa Prefecture, where he produced many works. He received numerous awards, including the prestigious Masamune Prize, and was designated a Living National Treasure in 1981. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 77.
This work is a fine, slightly elongated tanto characteristic of Masamine, with abundant nie in both the ji and ha, giving the blade a bright and clear appearance.
