Features: Carved in high relief on a yamagane (unrefined copper) ground are motifs of matchlock guns.
The matchlock was introduced to Japan in 1543 when a Portuguese ship drifted ashore at Tanegashima, after which it came into widespread use in warfare.
This rare design holds considerable documentary value, and its subtle patina conveys a sense of age and early workmanship.
