Appraisal Quiz #844

Previous answer is
Hizen Kuni Ju Fujiwara Tadahiro
Kan’ei 15 Nen 2 Gatsu Kichijitsu (February 1638)
肥前国住藤原忠広
寛永十五年二月吉日

Features:Four years prior, his father passed away, and Tadahiro succeeded him.
It is said that many of his early works were of excellent quality, partly due to the support of surrounding swordsmiths.
Another characteristic of Hizen swords is the relative rarity of dated inscriptions.
However, this piece bears an inscription on the reverse: “Kanei 15, 2nd month, auspicious day.”
The blade features a gunome-midare hamon with a deeply defined nioiguchi, accompanied by active sunagashi and kinsuji within the blade.
The boshi has a swelling nioiguchi, and the workmanship is exceptionally superb.
In Kanei 9, December, Tadayoshi (the father) was still alive, but by Kanei 10, 2nd month, he had passed away, marking the beginning of the era of Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro.
This piece was created five years after his father’s death, and it is astonishing that Tadahiro was already producing masterpieces of this caliber.
It is, without a doubt, a top-quality blade worthy of being designated as Juyo Token, and we highly recommend it.
