Features: Shigezane was active from the late Kamakura period to the early Nanbokuchō period and is said to have been either the younger brother or a disciple of Motoshige, with a closely related style of workmanship. This blade clearly displays the characteristic features of Shigezane, including its broad suguha mixed with angular and reverse-leaning gunome-midare.

Shape: Bo-hi are carved through on both sides, with a standard kasane and koshi-zori.
The kasane and mihaba are standard, with koshi-zori, a long blade, and a chu-kissaki.
Jigane: Itame hada mixed with mokume hada, standing out, with thick ji-nie and chikei, forming the so-called "matsukawa hada," with a darkish steel color.
Hamon: Suguha-based with ko-choji and ko-gunome mixed in, with abundant ashi and yo, thick nie, and kinsuji and sunagashi.
The boshi shows yubashiri, is midarekomi with hakikake, and becomes flame-like (kaen).
