Shape: This is a sturdy and long wakizashi with a wide body, thick blade, and a prominent curvature near the tip, giving it a bold appearance.
Jigane: Well-forged itame hada, showing a pronounced grain pattern.
Hamon: The hamon features small gunome midare with a deep return at the boshi, creating a komaru (small, rounded) shape.
Features: Yoshiue of Echizen was known for producing well-forged swords with a distinct grain pattern, reminiscent of Shigetaka’s robust works.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Otafuku-style made of shakudo.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo with a basket weave pattern in high relief, filled with gold inlay.
Saya: Glossy black lacquer saya (scabbard).
Menuki: High-relief carving of lions with gold inlay.
Kozuka: Shakudo with nanako-ji texture, featuring a lion motif in gold inlay, crafted from copper.
Seppa (2 pieces): Copper with solid gold wrapping.
Aoi Art’s Comment: This large and extended wakizashi is fitted with a beautifully crafted koshirae. It is a solidly built piece from the early Edo period, reminiscent of works by the first-generation Shigetaka. We highly recommend this sturdy and well-crafted piece.
