Koto: Jyo Jyo Saku: Bizen
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyo-jyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Saijo-saku ranking.
The blade was polished.

Habaki: Gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length: 49.4cm or 19.4inches.
Sori: 1.5cm or 0.6inches.
Mekugi: 2
Width at the hamachi: 2.9cm or 1.1inches.
Width at the Kissaki: 2.0cm or 0.8inches.
Kasane: 0.6cm or 0.3inches.
The weight of the sword: 510grams.

Era: mid-Kamakura period, around Kangen, mid-13th century.
Shape: Originally this sword was small Tachi, and it was shortened.
Jigane: very dense iron with Jinie atatch. There are clear Midare Utsuri on both sides of the blade.
Hamon: Soft Nioikuchi Choji Midare and Gunome Midare with snall Ashi and Yo. You can see Sunagashi and Kinsuji in the Hamon. Boshi is lightly Midare and Yakizume style.

Features: Yoshihira is one of the sword smith who makes the gorgeous Choji Midare Hamon in the middle of Kamakura period. He was active in the height of prosperity of the Ichimonji school. Others were Yoshifusa, Sukezane and Norifusa.
Every swordsmiths left behind many great swords.
There are several Zaimei(with signature) swords of Yoshihira, but relatively few. This blade has the signature. We are overwhelmed by brilliant Choji Midare Hamon and Midare Utsuri.
Dr. Kanzan’ Sayagaki said that this sword was a legacy of the Uesugi family and has been carefully treated as a treasure.

Koshirae:
Saya: Blacl Roiro Saya with some family crests painted.(katabami-Mon, Shinosasa,etc).
Tsuba: Shakudo Nanako Tsuba, the rim is covered with gold color.
Menuki: Shakudo, chrysanthemum is carved with gold color.
Fuchi: Shakudo Nanako, Shishi-dog is carved with gold color.
Kashira: Black horn with gold color.
Kozuka: Kogai: Shakudo Nanako, dragon is carved with gold color.
Kogatana: There is a signature of Sagami Kami Masatsune(相模守政常).
