The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gassan single habaki.
Blade length : 55.6 cm or 21.88 inches.
Sori : 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.

Width at the hamachi : 3.23 cm or 1.27 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.23 cm or 0.87 inches.
Kasane : 0.65cm or 0.25 inches.

Era : 1940
Shape : Wide and thick blade with deep Sori and long Kissaki.
Jigane : Well grained Itame-hada with Chikei that looks Ayasugi-hada.
Hamon : Nie-deki, Gunome-midae, there’re Soshuden style Sunagashi and Kinsuji in the Hamon. Boshi is Midarekomi, Kaeri is Maru.

Special Feature : Gassan Sadakatsu, the son of the first generation Gassan Sadakazu, was one of the representative swordsmiths of Taisho to early Showa period.
He was well-known as a highly-skilled smith that made all of Soshu-den, Bizen-den and Yamato-den style swords. but he didn’t leave signed swords a lot until his father died in the late Taisho era.
Sadakatsu put all his energies into making his own sword from 1920\’s for the Imperial Household and for the Ise-Jingu shrine, accepting orders by high dignitaries.
He made his swords with sincere and faithful attitude in accordance with Shintoism.
He trained many excellent swordsmiths. His two most excellent pupils among them were his real son the 2nd Gassan Sadakazu and the other was Takahashi Sadatsugu, they were designated as preservers of Important Intangible Cultural Assets.
Sadakatsu passed away in 1943, aged 74.

From Aoi Art : The shape of this large Wakizashi is kind of rare for Gassan Sadakatsu works.
This sword is made in 1940, it displays Ayasugi-hada looking Jigane and Sunagashi and Kinsuji in the Hamon which looks like Soshuden style.
The Sayagaki is written by his grandson Gassan Sadatoshi.
