This sword Jiro Taro Naokatsu belongs to Jojo saku ranking.

The blade is polished by high ranking polisher.
Habaki : Silver single Habaki.

Blade length : 47.0 cm or 18.5 inches.
Sori : 1.0 cm or 0.34 inches.
Mekugi :  1
Width at the hamachi : 2.48 cm or 1.0 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.07 cm or 0.81 inches.
Kasane :0.73 cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : The blade is regular size with deep sori and longer Kissaki and
Bo-hi and Soe-hi engraved on both sides of the blade nice looking shape.
Jigane : Koitame hada well grained with Jinie attach beautihul Muji style texture.
Hamon : Nioideki Chouji Midare Hamon and Boshi is Midarekomi style.
Special feature : Jiro Fujiwara Naokatsu has been serving under the Akimoto Daimyo family of Joshu Tatebayashi (Now Gunma prefecture).
After he moved to Edo, he became the student and also adopted son of Taikei
Naotane.
It was during Tenpo 2nd (1831) when he started to call himself JIro Naokatsu
and signed signature JIro Taro Naokatsu.
He has used several different signature such as Sojiro Taro Fujiwara Naokatsu Zo,
Soshi Jiro Taro Naokatsu and Jiro Fuji Naokatsu. Ansei 5th year (1858) July 22nd,
he passed away at the age of 54.
The style of his works is similar to his teacher Naotane who made Bizen-den
and Soshu-den work and some of them were even better than his.
This wakizashi is a work that is influenced by early Muromachi period Morimitsu.
It is nie deki with deep nioiguchi. It is excellent choji midare
with deep kinsuji work is entwined in the hamon.
The undulating hamon is beyond the work of Naotane

Historical background: Tenpo 2nd year 1831 February 18th,
the Russian ship has invaded Ezo. Tenpo 3rd year August 19th He has Nezumi Kozo
(The theif during Edo Period who has robbed a mansion) was executed in Kozukahara.

Koshirae :
Saya : Black Roiro Saya with black belts are covered on the saya.
Tsuba : On the round shape iro tsuba, an old man and bamboo trees are engraved peaceful scenery.
Menuki : Dragon is engraved on copper plate.
Fuchi : On Shakudo-nanakoji plate, fisherman is trying to catch fish by net. Kasira : made from horn.
