Special feature: We have some different Ichimonji schools: Ko-Ichimonji, Fukuoka-Ichimonji, Yoshioka-Ichimonji, Katayama-Ichimonji and Shochu-Ichimonji etc. They flourished from the early Kamakura period. This work has the letter “Ichi” above the engraving of “Bishu Yoshioka Ju Sae(monjo Sukemitsu), and moreover, it has production date engraving(Kenmu Gannen 6 Gatsu/June of Kenmu 1[1334]). We can say that this work is really important and rare as a historical material.

From Aoi Art: This work was made by Sukemitsu from Yoshioka Ichimonji school and has a production date, and has the letter of “Ichi” proudly above the front signature. It was originally a Nagamaki and it was remade as Wakizashi. Solid work in healthy condition. Mumei-kiwame of Ichimonji generally has figurative Hamon while the works with signature tend to have a calmer atmosphere. We obviously need some explanations for the gap between the real swords and the present judgment. In any case, we cannot find this kind of works easily, we truly recommend this Yoshioka-Ichimonji with production rate for you.
