Wakizashi in Shirasaya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

Signature : Bushu ju Hata Morihisa.
Sekido Hachizaemon-jo saku.
(1st generation. Shinto, Josaku. Wazamono. Musashi province.)

The blade is polished.
Blade length : 52.6 cm or 20.70 inches.
Sori : 0.8 cm or 0.31 inches.
Mekugi : 1 is open, 1 is filled.
Width at the hamachi : 3.19 cm or 1.25 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.99 cm or 0.78 inches.
Kasane : 0.78 cm or 0.30 inches.
Weight of only blade : 560g
Era : Early Edo period.about Kanbun era(about 1661)
Shape : This blade is wide and thick, Kanbun Shinto style Wakizashi with little Sori.
Jitetsu : Very tight Ko-itame with Jinie attach. There is clear Utsuri.
Hamon : Ko-nie based, Gunome and Choji mix with wide Nioikuchi.
There are many Ashi and Yo. Boshi is Midarekomi style.

Special feature : Morihisa was a swordsmith of Sekido school in about Kanbun era.(about 1661)
He was called also Sekido Hachizaemon-jo.
After, he changed his signature to Toren.
This blade is Utsushi (copy) of Ichimonji school, and this blade is very similar to Yoshioka Ichimonji.
And blade quality is very nice, and condition is very healthy.
On the Sashi-omote side of Nakago, signature “Morihisa” is engraved,
and on the Sashi-ura side of Nakago, signature “Hachizaemon-jo” is engraved also. It’s very rare.
