During this time, long swords of the Nanbokucho era disappeared, giving rise to shorter wakizashi and sun-nobi hira-uchi tanto.
Both Morimitsu and Yasumitsu are famous for continuing the tradition of Bizen work from the Nanbokucho era, producing exceptional jigane with a beautiful bo-utsuri that follows the hamon.
Their works exhibit outstanding craftsmanship and innovative designs.

Aoi Art’s Comment:This is a hira-uchi wakizashi by Bishu Osafune Yasumitsu.
While Yasumitsu often signed with just two characters, this piece is rare, featuring a longer signature and a date inscription.
Though there is slight wear from polishing, the sword may have been forged without a core, indicating solid construction.
The goma-hashi carvings on both sides are elegantly done, adding dignity to this piece.
The soft nioiguchi of the suguha hamon is complemented by a vivid bo-utsuri above it, making this an extraordinary sword that is rarely seen in today’s market.
The koshirae is also exceptional, with its kairagi shark skin saya and luxurious fittings, indicating that this piece was carefully preserved by high-ranking samurai.
This is a highly recommended, remarkable piece.
