Features: Naval Tanto mounting. – This is a short sword owned
by a high-ranking officer. The mounting is a Japanese naval dirk with the
original blade inscribed as Higo Do taanuki Muneharu. As you may
know, most of the swords belonging to the Kawai Army personnel were
lost, and all the possessions they had were lost in the war. Naval
officers were required to possess a short sword, and most of them were
made of a blade-like material such as aluminum instead of iron.
However, there were some military personnel who used signed short
swords like this one. This work is a robust piece resembling a thick
kasane of armor and lacking the typical curvature of a nagaeyari. It was
made by Higo Tonda Kunimaru in the 3rd year of the Meiji era.

Koshirae:
Tsuba (guard): Special feature – Naval dirk mounting

From Aoi Art: This work is a naval officer’s piece, with a sturdy
body like a thick kasane of armor and lacking the typical curvature of
aNaginata style Many military personnel were lost as they lost the war,
and their short swords sank into the depths of the sea. The naval dirk
mountings, including this one, belong to high-ranking officials and are in
excellent condition. The body shape by Higo Do-tanuki Munehiro is also
outstanding, and it bears the inscription of the 3rd year of the Meiji era.
We highly recommend this piece.
