Special feature : According to the saya-gaki, this wakizashi had been attributed Naoe shizu . Recently the NBTHK also judged this unsigned katana as Naoe-Shizu. The name of Naoe-shizu is the general term of the pupils of Shizu Saburo Kaneuji. Shizu the 1st, Kaneuji was one of the most skillful swordsmiths of the Masamune School. Kanetomo, Kanenobu and Kanetsugu were students of Kaneuji. They moved to Naoe from Shizu in Mino province and made swords there so they are called Naoe-Shizu. Some of his students gave one’s name as Naoe-Shizu. That is, Kaneuji on and after the second generation, Kanetomo, Kanetsugu, Kanenobu and so on are seemed to correspond to Naoe-Shizu. The style of Naoe-Shizu is that: a compact Nioi-Kuchi and dull activity in the ha compared with Shizu style and also bright nie. In our inspection, this katana resembles to Masamune.
According to the Jyuyo Token zufu, this sword was belonginged to Owari Tokugawa family sword. I think the blade was Masamune or Shizu at that time. The sword is famous traditional Tokugawa Daimyo family’s treasure.
This data is mentioned on the Jyuyo token zufu and sayagaki by human national trreasure Honami Nisyu sensei.
