Aoi Art’s Comment:This is a Ko-zori katana, a style that dates back to the Nanbokucho to early Muromachi periods, particularly around the Oei era (1394-1428).
The koshirae that accompanies this blade is also a remarkable work, making this a highly recommended piece.
Many Ko-zori works originate from the Nanbokucho period, with swordsmiths such as Morikage, Morisuke, Hidemitsu, and Mitsuhiro being known representatives.
Among them, Hidemitsu has works that have been designated as Important Cultural Properties, such as a grand 2 shaku 6 sun 9 bu (approximately 81.5 cm) blade that belonged to the Murakami Navy, a powerful clan.
The hamon of that work is believed to be similar to this piece.
Historical Context:Blades from the Nanbokucho to early Muromachi periods are often deeply curved, giving them an ancient appearance.
However, it is also essential to recognize that many swords from this era have elegant and well-formed shapes.
Well-crafted Koshirae and the length of the blade are suitable for practice not only for appreciaten.
