This sword belongs to ranking.
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 78.18 cm or 30.77 inches.
Sori : 1.8 cm or 0.70 inches.
Width at the hamachi : 3.22 cm or 1.26 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.20 cm or 0.86 inches.
Kasane : 0.76 cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Edo period, Tenpo era.
Shape: Wide and thick with large Kissaki, bit Machiokuri Katana.
Jitetsu: Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach. There are Chikei. Soden-fu Jigane.
There are Bo-Hi on both side of the blade.
On the middle of the blade, there is a faintly Kitae-Ware. But it is not seriouse.
Hamon: Nie Deki, Gunome Midare with thick Nioikuchi. In Ha, there are Sunagashi and Kinsuji.
Boshi is Saki Togari gokoro round shape. The thick Nioi. There are also Sunagashi and Kinsuji.
Special feature :Naotane, born Shoji Minobei in 1778 or 1779 at Yamagata in Dewa province, considering
from his title Taikei used at a later date, his birthday is possibly 15th July,
went to Edo and become a pupil of Suishinshi Masahide. The Akimoto family in Yamagata province
retained Naotane around 1812. Naotane got the title Chikuzen-Daijo in 1821and stepped up to
the Mino (No) Kami in 1848. As building up a solid reputation, he got many invitations to
forge sword in various places. He added the name of place to inscribe the signature.
Naotane passed away in 1857, aged 79.
Koshirae : Handachi Koshirae.
Saya : Reddish brown Saya. There are clouds design.
Unfortunately there are some damage.
Tsuba : Iron Tsuba, flower and rope are engraved with brass inlay.
Menuki : Shakudo, dragon is engraved.
Fuchikashira and other fittings: Shibuichi, dragon is engraved.
From Aoi Art: This blade has nice Jigane and deep nioikuchi of Choji Midare Hamon.
As you know the swords which were made Tenpo era, are the best quality in late Edo.
Taikei Naotane and other famous sword smith made the top quality swords at that time Tenpo which is called Tenpouchi.
