Explanation: This blade was made by Shimotsuke Junin Hikosaburo Akihide for Mr. Okubo Toyoshiro on May 5th, 1934.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jyo Jyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki:gold wrapped double habaki.
Blade length : 70.8 cm or 27.87 inches.
Sori :2.0cm or 0.78 inches.
Width at the hamachi :3.21 cm or 1.26 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.19 cm or 0.86 inches.
Kasane : 0.67cm or 0.26 inches.
Era : Showa 9 (1934)
Shape : The blade is long and wide and thick
with deep sori and medium Kissaki nice looking Kamakura shape.
Jigane :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach beautiful texture.
There is a Sumigomori on near the edge of Omote side. It is 10cm from the Hamachi.
Hamon :Niedeki Choji midare and Juka Choji midare mixed with Ashi
and Yo with deep Nioikuchi. Boshi is Midarekomi style.
Special feature: Kurihara Akihide was born at Sano province in Tochigi prefecture at Meiji 12th(1879)
He studied under the Horii Taneaki and made a sword making factory in Akasaka and invited Kasama Shigetsugu and others.
He educated many swordsmiths like human national treasure,
Miyairi Shohei, Amada Akitsugu also a human national treasure.
He was an eggheaded person and became House of Representatives
member and helped a lot for sword making person.
He passed away Showa 29th at age of 76.
From Aoi Art: This sword was imaged as Fukuoka Ichimonji style.
The blade is active Choji midarr hamon and also inside of the hamon.
Akihide is well known sword smith and a politician and influenced
Ichimonji hamon. The blade is active and very elegant shape.
The Ookubo family asked to make a sword for his son
at boy’s day to Akihide.
I think the Ookubo family is well known person at early Showa.
