Special Feature : It is generally believed that Sadatsuna the First was a son of Sekisyu Naotsuna. Naotsuna has been counted among Masamune-juttetsu, the best brilliant ten pupils of Masamune in Soshu. Sekishu province, present Shimane pref. had been prospered by exporting iron. Using good quality iron, the clan forged excellent swords for generations.
Naginata is a kind of halberd. A sword blade of one of several similar shapes that was used attached to a long pole. It is also called a polearm. The shape is divided broadly into two categories: Tomoe-gata and Shizuka-gata. Tomoe-gata curves stronger on the upper part than Shizuka-gata.
The Namboku-cho period was the period of the Northern and Southern dynasties, ca. 1300’s during which there were two rival lines of emperors. Many outsized tachi were made and the naginata was much used in actual battles. They were so long that were reformed to Katana or wakizashi later.

From Aoi Art : Unlike ordinary Sekishu blades, the Jigane of this one is so stunning.
It looks like Bizen Yoshioka Ichimonji’s works, because of the Soshu style Hamon, However, NBTHK may judged this blade attributed to Sekishu Sadatsuna.
The Shape is really gorgeous and this wavy Hamon is excellent.
Regretfully there’re some Kitae, but in my opinion this blade is not less beautiful than Juyo blades.
