Shape: This is a Ō-suriage mumei blade with a wide body and standard thickness, featuring a large, extended kissaki typical of the Nanbokuchō period.
Jigane: Itame-hada mixed with mokume-hada, forming a fine and well-forged steel.
Hamon: A flamboyant gunome-midare pattern continues along the blade.
The boshi enters in a midare pattern and returns in a pointed manner.
Features: The Ōmiya school descended from Morikage, who moved from Ōmiya in Yamashiro Province to Bizen.
It flourished from the late Kamakura period through the Nanbokuchō period.
The school is believed to have started in the Niji era (around 1240, mid-Kamakura period).
Most works exhibit calm suguha-style temper lines.
Aoi Art’s Comment: This piece is believed to date from around 1362 (Jōji era).
It passed NBTHK Hozon certification in its unpolished state and was subsequently polished.
