This sword belongs to Jo-Jo saku ranking.
The blade is polished by a good polisher.
Habaki : gold wrapped double habaki.
Blade length : 66 cm or 25.98 inches.
Sori : 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 2.94 cm or 1.157 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.98 cm or 0.779 inches.
Kasane : 0.67 cm or 0.263 inches.
Era : Edo Kanbun era.
Shape : The blade is rather wide and thick with small sori Kanbun shape and about 3cm Machiokuri and suriage nakago. But the whole signature remains on the tang.
Jigane : Koitame hada is well grained with jinie attach beautiful texture Oosaka jigane.
Shinogiji : Koitame hada masanagare.
Hamon : Niedeki gunome midare with deep nioikuch and nice soft Habuchi. In Hamon, many sunagashi and Kinsuji work. Boshi is midarekomo and round shape.
Special Feature : According to the Saya-gaki, Kunisada the Second known as Inoue Shinkai made this Katana. As his father was so old, Shinkai forged on behalf of his father. Examining the workmanship, we are completely convinced with this opinion.
Inoue Shinkai was born as the Second son of Kunisada the First in 1630. Shinkai used the swordsmith name Kunisada for his early works. Shinkai got the title of Izumi (No) Kami in 1652. In 1661, The Imperial Court approved him to carve the chrysanthemum crest on the tang. He passed away in 1682, aged 53. He had the reputation of Namba-Masamune.
It’s said that the blade was made by Shinkai’s most reliable student Yamagami Kunitaka. The jigane is nice and also active gunome midare hamon with thick nioikuchi.
