Aoi Art’s Comment: Shigetada was a swordsmith from Bungo who worked during the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
Upon closer inspection, this blade exhibits remarkable craftsmanship, featuring deep nioiguchi, a varied gunome-midare pattern, and tobiyaki, which adds further complexity.
With additional polishing to enhance the contrast between white and black areas, the hamon could become even more striking.
Additionally, the koshirae is unique, with a decorative aogai chirashi saya and fuchikashira depicting pufferfish, flatfish, and flying fish—an impressive set of fittings.
