Shape : Wide and thick sword, Ububa left, Deep sori and longer Kissaki.
Jigane : Masame-hada is fine grained so much that it looks like almost Koitame. There’re fine JInie and Chikei.
Hamon : Niedeki, Suguha with deep Noikuchi, there’re Nijuba, small Ashi, Sunagashi, Kinsuji.
Boshi : Notare but the point is Hakikake.Kaeri is Maru.
Special Feature : Gassan Sadakazu the 1st, whose citizen name was Yagoro, was born in 1836, Hikone, Koshu province.
When 7 years old, he was adopted by Gassan Sadakichi and 2 years later, he started learning sword making. At the age of 20 he acquired Ayasugi-hada already.
In 1876 the Haitorei (decrees abolishing the wearing of swords in public) was issued, but he continued making sword despite such a difficulty and be a Teishitsu-gigeiin, a Craftman to the Imperial Household in 1906 and received a command to make a Gunto for the Emperor Meiji in the next year.
He was active from 15 years old to until he died at 83 years old and this sword is made just 3 years ago.
Saya : Black roiro Saya
Tsuba : Gold color round shaped Shakudo Tsuba, the wave carving.
Menuki : Gold color dragon carving.
Fuchikashira : Gold color Shakudo Fuchikashira, the dragon carving, the signature reads Yoshinaga.
From Aoi Art : This nicely shaped sword was made by Gassan Sadakazu at the age of 80, for a major general, Takeda Gakuzo. It’s really very historical.
Probably the swordsmiths’ son Gassan Sadakatsu help him to make this sword.
The sword displays well grained Masame and Hosho style Hamon.
